The City of San Antonio has developed the AlertSA Program as an enhancement to the emergency notification system. Previously, the system only used landline phone numbers but now allows for additional ways of contacting users, such as cell phone, home phone, text and e-mail. The information you enter will be used for emergency purposes only.

This system will notify those homes and businesses at potential risk with information on the event and/or actions (such as evacuation) that the City and local Public Safety Officials are asking them to take. Messages will be sent to all standard voice and text communication devices that you have registered.

What is the AlertSA program?

AlertSA is a service that allows you to register to receive alerts during emergency situations.

When will it be used?

The system will be used to notify residents and businesses about imminent threats to health and safety. Public safety officials will send alerts about emergencies such as severe flooding, chemical emergencies, or wildfires. Emergency alerts will be sent 24 hours a day based on severity.

Will I still get emergency notifications if I don't sign up?

If you don't sign up, you will still receive emergency alerts on your landline home and business phone, but nowhere else.

How much does it cost?

AlertSA is free; however, standard message and data rates may apply.

What if my cell phone area code is not local to San Antonio?

There is no impact to you receiving alerts from the system.

Will there be any indication that the incoming call is an emergency alert?

Landline phones may display "Emergency"; cell phones, by default, will not display a name with the incoming number. It is recommended that AlertSA users save the number 210-408-8302 in their phone, with the contact name "Emergency".

What if my contact information changes?

The system is only as good as the information you provide. If your cell phone, work phone or e-mail address changes, you will need to update your profile and contact information. The one exception is traditional landlines. If a traditional landline changes to another landline number, that information will be automatically updated.

Will my contact information be shared with others?

No, the information that you provide will be used for emergency purposes only. We will not give or sell your telephone numbers or e-mail addresses to any vendor or other organization. 

Functional Needs

When you create your account, you can specify which access and functional needs considerations pertain to you. This information will provide first responders with key information that can be used to better assist you during an emergency in your area.  

Deaf and Hard of Hearing

If you are deaf or hard of hearing, you should plan on a variety of ways to receive warnings and alerts. They will be sent by phone, text, and TTD/TTY. By signing up, you can easily identify a number of devices by which to receive information.

Blind and Low Vision

If you are blind or low vision, you should consider alternative methods of receiving warnings and alerts. Sign up for the opt-in feature so you can receive early alerts by landline and cell phone about events you may need to act on.

Physical/ Mobility Disabilities

During an emergency, you may need to shelter-in-place or evacuate. If you have a physical disability, plan ahead for what you may need in an emergency. Sign up so you can receive early notifications about events you may need to act on.

Cognitive/Intellectual Disabilities

An emergency can be especially stressful to those with cognitive or intellectual disabilities. Develop a plan now with family, friends, and neighbors to stay alongside those needing supervision.
